We are in Afghanistan, fighting a war against terrorism. And we are in Iraq, fighting a war against…Well, I am not sure who we are fighting in Iraq. But, I do know that we are in two wars already. We have spent $526 billion in Iraq since the war started in 2003. That’ll go up by another 200 million by the end of today. And then again tomorrow. We are spending so much money, losing so many of our brave soldiers, and now…Now there are rumors that Iran is next. According to one report by the Asia Times, Bush has plans for an air strike by August.

For what?

There are quite a few reasons why Bush might want to attack Iran. Might it be that Iran has a terrorist organization as its military? According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, all assets leading to particular parts of the Iranian military, under Executive Order 13382 are to be frozen immediately. Executive Order 13382 states that any assets between the United States and any group that proliferates weapons of mass destruction, and any supports of these people, are to be frozen immediately. Therefore, for the Department of the Treasury to freeze all the assets, it is a direct sign that the Iranian military has been labeled a terrorist organization.

According to Joe Lieberman, “We applaud the Bush administration’s decision today to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force as a terrorist organization, and the IRGC as a proliferator of weapons of mass destruction. The IRGC has long had American blood on its hands, most recently in supporting terrorist action against our troops in Iraq.” He went on to say, “Far from taking us closer to war with Iran, as some have irresponsibly suggested, these kinds of targeted sanctions represent our best chance to influence Iran’s action so as to be able to avoid military action. In fact, anyone who hopes to prevent military action against Iran should applaud the Bush administration’s decision today.” In essence, he believes that this is going to make war less likely.

I disagree.

According to President Bush, “We fight the terrorists and we fight all of those who give them aid. America has a message for the nations of the world: If you harbor terrorists, you are terrorists. If you train or arm a terrorist, you are a terrorist. If you feed a terrorist or fund a terrorist, you’re a terrorist, and you will be held accountable by the United States and our friends.” The way I see it, by labeling the IRGC Quds Force as a terrorist organization, it gives President Bush ample reason to invade Iran. We’ve already seen that he will make things up to get us into a war. Where are the WMDs in Iraq? Therefore, perhaps this was one of his first steps in invading Iran? Could the war really be coming, though, just because of this?

No. There is more to suggest that the war could be coming and why.

It is common knowledge that Iran is trying to develop nuclear power. Is it for economic reasons, though, or is it so that they can develop a nuclear weapon? I say the latter. Israel has a nuclear weapon and therefore, if Iran wants to “wipe Israel off the map,” they need one too. However, that is speculation. It scares America, specifically the government, for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. If Iran has one, they become a super power. Imagine is Nazi Germany had had the nuclear weapon first. Imagine the way the world would be today. That’s the fear that enters the minds of politicians as they try to figure out what to do with this nation that, according to President Bush, is aproliferator of weapons of mass destruction.

According to one report, Iran’s military had an angle in past nuclear work. Why? Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs, Sean McCormack, asked the same question. And the answer he gave to it was: “”And I’m not sure other than for a weapon why you would do that.” Therefore, America is scared that Iran is building a nuclear device. And if there is fear of a nuclear weapon being built, what is there to stop President Bush from doing this air attack in August. However, there is still more to suggest that there might be an air attack.

There are rumors that when President Bush was in Israel, he stated that the only reason that there was not an attack in Iran was because of his secretaries of state and defense, Condoleezza Rice and Mr. Gates. The Bush Administration denied these remarks; however, what if they were true? Recently, Israel’s main liaison to the United States, Shaul Mofaz said, “The window of opportunity has closed. The sanctions are not effective. There will be no alternative but to attack Iran in order to stop the Iranian nuclear program.” War. Israel is stating that they must attack Iran because Iran refuses to cease its nuclear research. Iran says it’s legal; Israel says it isn’t.

It is interesting that so soon after this alleged report of Bush stating that the reluctance of his secretaries is the only reason we’re not invading Iran, that Mofaz comes out and says this. Is it coincidence or did Bush really say that America has plans to send an air strike in August? Perhaps he did. According to the War Powers Resolution, a President needs to let Congress know within 48 hours that he/she has committed American troops to military action. Furthermore, after sixty days, these troops have to be pulled out without a declaration of war. Now…What this suggests is President Bush could, within his rights as our Commander in Chief, send jets into Iran and bomb targets. What targets? IRGC barracks. Nuclear power plants. Perhaps the President’s office. This ‘article’ that was posted in the Jerusalem Times and then the ironic responce by Mofaz only a few weeks after suggests that Bush might want to go into Iran.

Three reasons Bush could be planning to attack Iran. Three reasons to suggest that air strikes will occur in August. Three reasons. The terrorist organizations in Iran. The fact that there is nothing, according to some, that we can do in regards to Iran. And finally, Israel suggesting that war will come soon. We have tried to negotiate for five years with Iran. Nothing has worked. According to John Bolton, there are only two things left that we can do: a regime change or a use of force.
